My experience of Uttar Basti - An Ayurvedic Treatment For Urethral Stricture
After 1.5 to years of going through Urethroplasty, my stricture recur and i was planning to go for Uttar Basti since 2016, i contacted many nearby hospitals and clinics and collected the details but i was not sure that i should go for it or not as i was scared from my stricture and feeling that Uttar Basti may worse the situation therefore i did not go through it and keep doing my self calibration till 2019 and then i started Uttar Basti in April 2019.
Below are the summary for my therapy of Uttar Basti
April-12-2019
The doctor suggested me 10 days medicines before starting the Uttar Basti Sitting
April-24-2019
I went through my first Uttar Basti treatment, the doctor used 5 number catheter with some medicated oil, he keep insertist the oil with catheter until it reach bladder or near the urethra, the 5 number catheter was gone very smoothly as i did the self calibration with 16 number catheret just a day before taking my first sitting, before starting my treat i was doing the self calibration with 16 number catheter on weekly basis.
Doctor suggested me not to continue the self calibration, i was quite happy to hear this as i was frustrated by doing the self calibration on weekly basis since many years, the sitting took only 10 minutes and it was a painless procedure, after the procedure he ask me to have rest for around 10-15 minutes and then i went back to my home and pass the first urine after uttar basti first sitting, it was just normal and my flow was around 30% at that time, my flow was around 25% when i start taking the uttar basti treatment, this 5% increment may be due to the self calibration which i did just day before, so at this stage i was unable to feel any difference with uttar basti.
After 3-4 days my flow was again went back to 20-25% due to which i again did self calibration as i was scared that my flow may go down further, even the doctor suggested my not to continue with self calibration but i did it again.
May-1-2019
i met the doctor again after week for my next sitting, i shared that i did the self calibration again so he suggested me that from now onwards he will do 2 sitting in a week instead of one, and then he did the second sitting of uttar basti.
I keep taking many sitting for many weeks and i was taking it twice in a week (Sunday and Tuesday) after taking 7-8 sitting my flow was gone to 45-50% and it was a pleasure to have such percentage of my flow, i was quite ok with the treatment.
With the Uttar Basti therapies he also suggested me some Ayurvedic medicines which you can see in below attached consultation image.
After 10-11 sitting my flow started doing down again but still it was not going below 30% therefore i am still ok with the treatment, i am still continuing the treatment and my Uttar Basti treatment is not yet complete, i will keep posting the update and also i will post a detailed feedback once i will done with my treatment and another feedback after few months of treatment and follow up.
At 23-May-2019
Doctor suggested my to increase the duration of sittings from twice a week to once in a week and he called be after a week for another sitting, at present my flow is around 35-40%.
At 01-July-2019
I met the doctor yester after a gap of 7 days from my last sitting, before this, i was taking 2 sitting in a week but this week doctor suggested me to have a gap of 7 days as he want to gradually increase the gap between sitting, my flow is like 40-45% which is not bad, i do not have to make any pressure on my bladder to pass the urine and there is no flow decrease since my last sitting, it is same as it was 1 week ago, my next sitting will be on 10th July, and doctor suggested me to have a gap of 10 days this time.
At 16-July-2019
I had my last sitting on 10th July after a gap of 10 days from previous sitting, currently my flow is around 35-40% and it is lower than previous, it may be due to increase the gap of the sittings, urine is passing smoothly but not very smoothly, i need to put a bit pressure to make a good flow but i am not putting the pressure and letting it pass in some time, doctor called me on 20th july for next sitting, so far i am ok with the treatment as i am not doing any self catheterization, though my flow is now really good but still it is not bad, even if it will remain like this then there should not be any problem, hoping for the goo.
At 23-July-2019
I had another sessions on 20th July, my urine flow is around 30-35% and again it is lower than previous session, overall it is going down since many days gradually, the best flow was around one and half months back when i had around 10 sitting of uttar basti and that time my flow was around 60% which was quite good and that time i was happy with the Uttar Basti but after that it keep decreasing though i am taking regular sitting, at present it is not really well, i need to put some pressure to make a good flow, usually i do not made any pressure and keep it going with its own flow as putting the pressure is not good at all therefore i prefer to keep to going, due to decreasing flow my doctor suggest me to take another sitting on 23rd July means today, so i will have my next sitting today in sometime.
At 1st-Aug-2019
I had another sitting Yesterday, and i also discussed with my doctor that my flow is not getting increase, i am on the same condition where we have started and my current flow is about 25-30%, though i am not putting any pressure to pass the urine and putting pressure is always bad, therefore i am letting it pass by it own, but still my urination is not satisfied, Yesterday my doctor said that he has increased the composition of medicine in the oil and we will reduce the gap of sitting again, so my next sitting will be on 3rd Aug, but overall uttar basti does not give me that releaf which i was expecting, if my flow will remain the same after taking some more sitting than i will leave the uttar basti.
At 8-Aug-2019
after my sitting on 31st July, i took another sitting on 3rd Aug, when my doc increased the composition of medicine and also increase the doses of oral ayurvedic medicines, so from 3rd Aug i am taking all the oval medicines three times in a day, further he has also added one medicine named Snec30 which is the kind of curcumin medicine and purely anti inflammatory medicine, after taking the sitting on 3rd Aug my flow was same as before and i took the second sitting on 7th Aug, as my doc was already using the high composition of medicine so this time he did not increased is and it is same as before, from yesterday till today i feel some increment in my flow but it is not very much, i wop i will get the flow again which i was getting after taking 9-10th sitting of uttar basti, at that time my flow was around 50-55% which is quite good for an urethral stricture patient, my next sitting is on 10th Aug, if i will not get much relief or increase in flow after my next sitting or may be few more sitting then i have a plan to leave the uttar basti as it is not effecting on me anymore and then i will again go for calibration to keep my flow fine, as continuing the flow below 25% for a very long term may effect the other organs therefore i will not be having any other option, i will keep posting the update and hoping the my flow will increase again.
At 26-Aug-2019
I did not take the sitting on 10th Aug, as my flow was very down around 15-20% therefore i decided to quite the uttarbasti and go for the calibration (i will create a separate post about calibration), so i went to the calibration again on RG Stone Hospital, Delhi on 23rd Aug.
Uttar Basti di not worked for me, and i am still having the stricture, i will keep posting on this blog to keep all of you updated about my condition, i think i need your prayers and i hope once i will get relief from this condition, i wish no one get this kind of condition and whoever suffering from urethral stricture get rid from it soon, my prayers are with you, stay active, stay confident and never lose the hope.

I am quite satisfied with the doctor Sahil, he is young around 30 year in age and i can openly discuss all of my problem with him, he is quite good in his profession though he is young but very professional and knowledgeable, he also do the Uttar Basti in another hospital in Delhi (Aasha Ayurvedic Centre)
Apart from Dr.Sahil, i also consulted Dr.Sunil Kahalekar, he suggested my Uttar Basti for 10 days in the first month then, 5 Days in the seconds month, then 3-4 in the Third and fourth month, then 2-3 sitting for next 2-3 months, i did non take the therapies from his as he was quite expensive for me (Around 4k per sitting) also he was saying that my stricture can not be treated permanently and i need to continue the self cathering/dilatation for lifetime for 1-2 times in a months

Overall Feedback on Uttar Basti
I have gone through the complete procedure of uttar basti around 3+ months, it was working for me initially, but after taking 8-10 sitting it did not increase the improvement and gradually it went down again, therefore uttar basti did not worked for me, i think it is not a successful procedure for those who are having actual urethral stricture or critical urethral stricture, it is my personal opinion, though i take all the sitting or procedure without missing any, also i took all the medicines on times suggested by uttar basti doctor by still at the end my flow was same what it was on starting or even little bit lower than that, and even increasing the composition of medicine in uttar basti oil it did not have any improvement, my flow was keep going down therefore i left it after its completion and went for calibration, in case if you are planning to go for uttar basti than you may try to but once it stop working on you that you can understand that it will not work, if it is working on you and you flos it getting improved that you can keep going with it, all the best.Uttar Basti di not worked for me, and i am still having the stricture, i will keep posting on this blog to keep all of you updated about my condition, i think i need your prayers and i hope once i will get relief from this condition, i wish no one get this kind of condition and whoever suffering from urethral stricture get rid from it soon, my prayers are with you, stay active, stay confident and never lose the hope.

DeleteNo, i do not know the name of the exact oils, but i asked from my doctor and he said the for the UttarBasti treatment the oil which used by different doctors are mostly same only they are using it in different proposition with medicine, my doctor was nice and he was quite familiar and nice speaking with me.

Hi.. I'm suffering from urethral stricture from April 2018. I have undergone uthrethomy failed within a week, next followed with urethroplasty failed within a month.
ReplyDeleteBack to self catherization over a year then later came to know about uttarbasti.. it is my 11th sitting now..scar tissue is very soft but intermittently block s completely that I have to clear by self catherization..it looks like this disease doest have a solution

DeleteIt is very sad to hear about you, i wish you luck all the best for your treatment and pray for your recovery and health.
From your shared comment i analyse that you have 2 surgeries in the gap of very few days which is not good, in my case my urethral stricture back gradually after having urethrotomy not quickly like yours, further it is not advisable have 2 surgeries in such short period of time instead you could try self catheterization for few months to keep it open and see its result.
And for uttarbasti treatment i will not suggest you to do self catherization during the treatment instead you can consult with your doctor who is performing uttarbasti and let him know that your urine flow is blocking completely so that he can suggest you the possible solution for it, in my case my doctor ask me not to do self catherization during uttarbasti treatment therefore i did not perform it for the whole period of treatment.
The way I see it, doctor that performs uttarbasti should be an expert. Based on patients condition different oils and herbal decoctions are used. These days there are lot of ayurveda clincs doing panchakarma which includes uttarbasti. I don't how many of them are genuine.

In my case, I experience lot of spasm in my urethra. I've not undergone uttarbasti treatment yet. I wanted to do for it in jan, but couldnt get leave due to work pressure. Waiting for present situation(covid 19) to improve.
Meantime I do breathing exercise like Kapalabhati and meditation, feel better. Other important thing is prayer. It doesn't matter which religion you belong to. Pray with faith, ask for forgiveness. God will bless you
